Eyeglass prescription

Eyeglass prescription refers to wearing or using glasses that have been prescribed according to specification from an optometrist or ophthalmologist, and are necessary for clear and undisturbed sight of the user.  Based on what works best, at the end of an eye exam, the optometrist provides the patient with the necessary glasses. There are number of different problems that can be corrected using a prescription eyeglass, like long sight, short sight, astigmatism or blurred vision. While eyeglass prescription once given, can be re-used to get a new order of glasses or change to lenses. It is important to have regular check ups done, to determine any change in vision and to upgrade as required.

Latin abbreviations are often used when a doctor writes an eyeglass prescription.  OD or OS and OU are letters commonly used in writing them. OD stands for Ocular Dexter, OS for Ocular Sinister and OU stands for oculi uterque. The next number in the eyeglass prescription refers to the part of the eyeglass, called the cylinder, which represents the net difference in power and curvature between two eyes, in the vision test conducted.

When purchasing reading glasses, as many elderly people want to do as their eyes strain easily with age, many believe that a standard power of +1.75 is the norm. However, that is not the case; it is always wiser to have a doctor write you a prescription for your eyes, so that you do not end up doing more ill than good, for your sight.  When going for eyeglass prescription, you can also ask your doctor about lenses or the various designs available in frames. Today, there is no dearth of options, with huge variety in designer glasses, frames and much more available. Gone are the days when people had to wear unattractive, unsightly and bulky glasses or frames, which used to make the whole experience, a burden.

People now can enjoy perfect vision, while also shielding their eyes from the harsh sun, and while also looking trendy every day. So, when you are at the beach, you can easily pull on those sun glasses, and do not have to hunt around for your reading glasses separately. There is no need to compromise on style, or to feel like a granny at the end of it, switching glasses; and you can even get them in some stylish designer frames.
